This wine opens to dark and savory aromas that complement its mid-weight appearance. The La Fortuna 2018 Brunello di Montalcino shows blackberry and wild plum, and it also delivers lots of spice, toast and campfire ash. Five years of aging brings out oak nuances and the complexity of the aged fruit. There is some oak bitterness that should soften with time, but I wouldn't wait too long because you also want to catch this wine while the fruit is still fresh. I suggest a moderate 10-year drinking window for this 33,000-bottle release.

A tight and fresh 2017 Brunello
with firm tannins that nicely frame
the wine. A little austere at the
end. Black cherry and walnut
flavors with bright acidity. It’s solid

The mid-weight 2017 Brunello di Montalcino shows a smooth approachwith cherry fruit and cassis. No part of this wine is overblown, and infact, this Brunello maintains a silky personality overall. The alcohol ishigh at 15% in this hot vintage, although it feels relatively well tuckedinto the subtle fiber of this accessible Brunello. Production is 30,000bottles.

I have really enjoyed these latest releases from La Fortuna from the pastfew years. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino (with 35,000 bottlesproduced) opens to a dark ruby or garnet appearance and showsimpressive aromatic intensity. With that intensity comes sharpness andprecision. The aromas unfold quickly to display candied fruit, cocktailcherry, licorice, cola and dark spice. This is a frank and naked expressionof Sangiovese from an excellent vintage.

The La Fortuna 2012 Brunello di Montalcino is an evolved and savoryTuscan red with a slightly gritty and rustic personality. The wine showstrue grit and charisma, thanks to a non-conventional approach andphilosophy. The fruit is presented as candied cherry and black currantwith tar, licorice and cola at the back. This Brunello is aged in largeSlavonian oak for a long 40-month period and that slow oxidativeprocess accounts for some of the evolved notes you get today. Thewarm vintage has also contributed to those mature fruit flavors.Tobacco and spice give the wine a greater sense of dimension. Some27,000 bottles were produced.

A dense, lush red, this delivers cherry,
leather and spice flavors, with accents of

The La Fortuna 2011 Brunello di Montalcino reminds us of the elegantand nuanced side of Sangiovese that can be harnessed even in achallenging vintage like this. Despite the warm growing season, this wineshows depth and precision with wild berry tones that are followed bylingering aromas of balsam herb and licorice.

Tense berry, violet, menthol and white-spice aromas lead the nose, with a whiff of new leather. The vibrant palate delivers crunchy red cherry, fleshy raspberry, baking spice and savory herb alongside assertive but refined tannins and fresh acidity. Drink 2018.

Un bel rubino concentrato accoglie l'occhio per poi lasciare il passo all'olfatto che trova varie anime: quella fruttata con i traccianti base mescolati tra nord e sud quindi marasca e ciliegia di Ravenna, e poi la ciliegia rosata, più fresca, con un filo di eucalipto e tabacco biondo. Nella fase gustativa abbiamo grande impatto e bellissima progressione, con un tannino tessuto nella trama del vino e una bella acidità. Il finale ritorna su note calde ed ampissime. Rilassato ed avvolgente.

This is round and full of sweet, ripe cherry, strawberry, graphite and earth flavors. Firms up as the finish plays out, echoing an essence of fruit. Best from 2022 through 2039. 2,200 cases made, 1,300 cases imported.

Pale garnet red in colour. Aromas of pink rose petal, violet and fresh cut green stems. Sour red cherry, pomegranate, rhubarb, mint, slight hint of liquorice, underbrush. Medium bodied. Remarkable finesse. Showing Burgundian elegance and textural lightness. Linear. Youthful and yet primary.

Mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Herbal and quite closed with notes of
beef stock. With aeration minerally, earthy notes and brooding cherry with a
peppery tingle. Sweet, perfumed marasca cherry and cherry liqueur on the palate
with rustic but ripe tannins. Quite a bit of power, not least enhanced by the alcohol.

Concentrated ruby with orange tinges. Dry tealeaves and a hint of oatmeal but otherwise closed. Very backward, yet very ripe on the palate too. Round strawberry finish if not hugely expressive for the moment. (WS)

Fresh-leather and dried-berry aromas. This sees quite punchy tannins and tart red fruit wrestling a little on the finish. Give it another year or two to settle in.

The La Fortuna 2014 Brunello di Montalcino shows the thin andsubdued characteristics of the vintage. The quality of fruit is dimmed orlessened in this growing season that lacked substantial sunshine andheat. The bouquet offers wild cherry, dried raspberry, spice andcamphor ash. However, the wine offers less intensity in terms ofmouthfeel, with extra tightness on the tannins. Bottle production is only6,600 strong in this vintage.

Cherry and raspberry flavors are
accented by tobacco and earth notes, all
wrapped up in dusty tannins. This is
balanced on the dry side in the end. Best
from 2018 through 2027.

Saturated with cherry, raspberry, spice and tobacco aromas and flavors, this strikes a balanced between the supple texture, succulent acidity and refined yet gripping tannins. Really sings on the lingering finish.

The 2016 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino shows dusty bright cherries in a cloud of confectioners' spice and crushed stone with hints of mint and sage. It's silky in texture, balancing ripe red berries and saline-minerals with vibrant acids, maintaining a juicy freshness in spite of a grippy tannins which slowly settle in. Purple inner florals and note of licorice linger throughout the long and structured finish, with just a hint of heat poking through. This will provide a good amount of pleasure over the short term, but it may fall out of balance with extended cellaring.
