Very opulent aromas of ripe plums, sliced peaches, violets and lavander. Full-bodied and very velvety with a beautiful, chewy finish of fruit and cedar. Lots of fruit, yet always in reserve and focused. Try after 2023.
The peach and orange-peel character to the cherry aromas really make this irresistible on the nose. Medium to full body, round and caressing tannins and a beautiful finish. Delicious now.
This is a sturdy and quite firmly structured Brunello with aromas of warm wood, dried herbs and leaves. The palate carries strong, fresh red berries in assertive, muscular tannins. Drink or hold.
Some ash and spice undertones to the cherry and berry aromas. Medium to full body, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Linear and focused. Better in 2020.

Made in limited release, La Fortuna's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Giobi is an intense and deeply layered expression of Sangiovese that shows a profoundly beautiful side of the grape. The bouquet is redolent of dark fruit, plum and wild cherry on a first wave. A second and third wave of aromas continues with crushed flower and rose, earth, tobacco and flinty stone. This wine is polished and long in terms of mouthfeel. I tasted bottle 443 of only 2,000 in production.
This special selection draws its fruit from a 18-hectare parcel with tufo soils, clay and ancient marine deposits. The La Fortuna 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Giobi is fermented in stainless steel and later aged in tonneaux. The wine offers pleasing aromatic intensity and fiber with dark cherry, plum, spice, earth and savory forest floor. It displays ample power on the palate with a compact and tight quality of fruit and a full-bodied approach. The tannins are still tight, and the bottle needs more cellaring. This is a limited release with just 2,000 bottles produced.
La Fortuna's 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Giobi (with a mere 1,300bottles released in this vintage) shows a more contemporarywinemaking approach with 40 months in tonneaux (as opposed toeither barrique or botte). You get more power, structure and density asa result. You also get distinct aromas of toasted oak, dark chocolate andscorched earth that all originate in that prolonged oak aging. Barbecuespice and Teriyaki smoke make appearances. This is a muscular wine (at15% alcohol), and I did not much like the tannic astringency you get atthis young stage in the wine's lifespan. Those tannins should find betterintegration in the future, although I doubt that roughness will ever fullydisappear.
The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Giobi shows some rough edges withsour cherry, wild berry, moist earth, balsam herb, fresh plum and bitteralmond. The wine is tight and nervous with some thorny spots along theway. A few of the aromatic transitions are abrupt and the wine veersfrom ripe fruit and strawberry to bitter cranberry in quick succession. Inthis sense, the wine is true to the variety. Sangiovese is difficult to tameand you get that sense here. The wine should flesh out with a few moreyears in the bottle.

Mid to deep ruby. Deep and a little rich and concentrated on the nose, but with lots of appeal. Rich, yet not overly sweet cherry fruit and plentiful acidity leading the finish. Ends a little vibrant and with bags of grainy tanins. Quite powerful yet a mastery balanced whole.

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Giobi from La Fortuna mixes peppery herbs and floral with notes of wild strawberry and tilled earth. It's a ripe and silky effort, supported by juicy acids while showing sweet cherry, hints of blueberry and spice before giving way to a lightly structured yet subtly chewy finale that resonates on hints of licorice and mocha. all of the said, this states a 15.5% abv, yet it finds admirable balance. Enjoy the 2016 La Fortuna sooner rather than later for its upfront appeal.
