The La Fortuna 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva opens to a momentof sweetness, a tiny interval that is quickly followed by spice, balsamherb and dried cherry. That sweetness disappears after the second sipor two, and the savory components of the wine—the spice, the smokeand the earthy notes—begin to take over. This wine spreads over thepalate with slow and steady consistency. This is a 7,000-bottle releasemade from a selection of fruit from the estate's 18 hectares of vines.

The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a plump and layered wine. Itpeels back to reveal black cherry, spice, tobacco and tangy balsam herb.This slowly aged Sangiovese is elegant and generous with a powerfulmouthfeel that shows integrated tannins and balanced acidity. ThisRiserva ages in barrique for 12 months followed by an additional 36months in botte. Only 4,000 bottles were produced.

The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva shows the radiance of the vintage with its sweetly spiced cherry/berry fruits, hints of mint and dusting of cedar. It's silky and expressive on the palate, leaning toward ripeness with a black fruit profile, yet plesant and balanced. The structure here is very subtle, so much so that you'd be hard-pressed to recognize this as a young Riserva. Hints of licorice and dark florals linger on the remarkably fresh finish.
